Post-doctoral Position Department of Chemistry at the University of Tennessee
This research postdoctoral appointment will be for a synthetic chemist in Dr. David Jenkins’s group. The primary objective is designing and synthesizing a library of ligands for utilization in the extraction of uranium from seawater. The postdoctoral associate will be part of a multi- disciplinary team consisting of researchers at numerous national labs and universities.
Required qualifications include:
1. Significant background in organic synthesis with emphasis on ligand design for transition metals or actinides;
2. Strong oral and written communication skills, including fluency in English, to facilitate collaborations with multi-disciplinary team; and
3. Ability to start the position between October 1st and November 1st, 2011.
Preferred qualifications include:
1. Expertise in inorganic/analytical chemistry with emphasis on competitive metal-ligand binding studies in aqueous solution; or
2. Background in synthetic inorganic chemistry focusing on uranium complexes.
Candidates must have completed a PhD in chemistry or a related field prior to appointment at UT. The position is a contract for one year and may be renewable (based on performance and funding) for at one additional year. The position begins October 1, 2011 or on a mutually agreeable later date.
